BS 8580-2 for Pseudomonas aeruginosa and other waterborne pathogen risk assessment to be published January 2022

Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Non Tuberculous Mycobacteria (NTM)s and other bacteria which can occur naturally in water and colonise water systems can pose a significant risk to health if not managed effectively. The development and implmentation of an effective water safety plan (see BS 8680) depends on the quality of the risk assessment. In healthcare this requires a multidisciplianry team with the skills necessary to assess all potential sources of infection including engineers, clinicians, ward staff, specialist service providers, specialist advosrs/ aurthorising engineers and patient support staff, for example.  BS 8580-2 will assist those responsible for safe water management to ensure  a holistic risk assessment is carreid out. this standard applies to healthcare, leisure, commercial and industrial systems and associted equipment where there is a risk of infe ction from waterbone pathogens.
